Certificate of good Standing (CogS)/ EU Certificate of Conformity

in the fields of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and psychotherapy

What is a certificate of good standing?

The certificate of good standing is a clearance certificate. It verifies your personal suitability for the profession.

In case you have already worked in your profession in another country, you will need this document to have your health profession recognized.

It states that you are allowed to work in your profession in another country without restriction and confirms that you have lawfully obtained your license to practice. The document also verifies that your license to practice has not been revoked and is not suspended.

Where can I obtain a certificate of good standing?

The certificate of good standing is issued in the country in which the applicant had his last last workplace.

If your last workplace was in Baden-Württemberg, you can apply for the CogS at the Stuttgart Regional Council.

Please complete the application form in full and send it to us by post with all the necessary documents to the following address:

Stuttgart Regional Council
Department 95.2 - State Recognition Office for Health Professions (LAfG BW)
Ruppmannstraße 21
70565 Stuttgart

If you last worked abroad in your profession and would like to work with us in Baden-Württemberg (e.g. as a doctor), you must submit a CogS in addition to your application. To do this, please contact the authorities in the country where you had your last place of work. You can apply for the CogS there and then present it to us.

What is an EU certificate of conformity?

An EU certificate of conformity certifies the completion of medical, dental or pharmaceutical training in accordance with the legal requirements within the EU.

This document is only required in individual cases for the recognition of healthcare professions from the EU, an EEA state or Switzerland (e.g. if the country of training only joined the EU after your training and therefore equivalence is not automatically proven).

Where can I obtain an EU certificate of conformity?

If you have completed your training abroad, you can apply to us for an EU certificate of conformity.

If you have completed your training in Germany, EU certificates of conformity are issued by the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM).

Further information can be found on the website of the Federal Ministry of Health.
